Shifa n i were talking one night when we came to the topic of 'Lailathul Qadhr' and i was thinking its the night thats more wonderous than any other night. the night where we were blessed with the holy Quran. Its said that its among the last 10 days of the month ramazaan and we'll get blessings of a 1000months if we worship n pray on that night.
So what i thought is if those 10days coincides with the menstruation cycle of a female(a period where she cant pray or touch the quran) how could she get the blessing of that night? so we talked n talked about it and it would surely be unfair if that was the case wouldnt it? We were sure that our religion cant be that way and that there had to be something behind it. that Question did occur to me even before but i jes didnt care much about it since i was a guy n all. And to common thinking we figured that even if women cant touch the Quran and pray, they can still recite quran by heart, pray to god to forgive their sins and all those other stuff besides touching the quran right? So thats not gonna stop a woman from working to get the blessings of that night.
The next day we did ask someone with definitely much better knowledge than us in religion and he said the same thing. that womn could do everything to get the blessing of that night besides touching the quran and doing the prayer. So i guess im sharing what happened regarding that topic. im sure some of u wouldve thought about it too. and if anyone has any other info other than what we were told please do share it with us.

and bulhaa, no. its not possible for everyone to start fasting on the same date even if lailathul qadhr is the same night for everyone. i mean we have been told ways to help us decide the first day of ramazaan and it neednt be the same day for all countries dho? i dunno much abt that but i THINK it doesnt necessarily have to be that way dho? i mean if its night time here in maldives, at some part of the world it could be day right? so for them probably lailathl qadhr would be their day's night dho? Im not sure mind u. but im pretty sure it would be within a 24hr period dho.

great question, but i disagree with a lot of you
the savaab is in reading the Koran, not by touching it. So what is the big deal about touching the koran if it has no consequence? why can't the woman touch the koran if she is bleeding? I do not feel different physically or emotionally while i am menstruating. no one that i have read has given evidence from the koran that women are not allowed to do these things. so why is it a common belief? my reasoning is that a lot of women suffer during menstruation and for this reason women were ALLOWED not to fast or perform prayers. but like many rituals and traditions that continue over long periods of time, they become unwritten laws. if we allow this to happen in every instance of our life, it is dangerous. If you look at the website provided by our friend mujahideen, he does not have evidence from the Koran, and the hadith he has is weak. hmmm, that was very interesting. but rnt we told that if theres a conflict in the koran or if we arent sure of something to look into the prophet's (SAW)sunnai, and if not from there then go to 'ijmaau'(religiously knowleded men)? so like its clear to me that we can take different meanings from that aayath. im sure those ppl who sez women cant touch the koran etc would show their justifications just like the ppl in the link u gave transition. but he hasnt provided any hadheeth or anything to justify his argument whereas the other group has provided stuff from the prophet's(SAW)sunnai and 'ijmaau'. could u shed some light on this pls?
This is precisely the kind of dogmatic ideologies and absolutely useless worries that Muslims busy themselves with.
If you want to be a true Muslim learn the duas that you recite before entering a house, before leaving a hourse, before entering toilet, before doing your business in the toilet, before taking a shower, before leaving the toilet, as you get on the bed, before you start making out, after you've made out, before the shower, after the shower, (don't forget as you get in the toilet to do the shower there are duas), before you sleep, as you wake up, before you eat, before you drink...oh and don't forget to dunk the fly if it lands in your soup.
If you want to be good Muslims utilize your time in productive ways. Watching live Tarawih on TV for sawaab? Indeed! I want to be plugged permanently to this source of savaab. Wake up people. Use the time to read on other cultures, on science and open your eyes.
If God so detests women in menstruation then why the heck did he create them with this problem? Why the laws against them? Because these are laws that Arab MEN created. God loves all his creatures no matter in what condition they are.

When it comes to reading from the Mus-haf (the Arabic text itself), a different rule applies. The correct view of the scholars is that it is forbidden to touch the mus-haf when one is in any kind of state of impurity, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “… which none can touch except the purified.” [al-Waaqi’ah 56:79]. In a letter to ‘Amr ibn Hazm, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) told the people of Yemen: “No one should touch the Qur’aan except one who is taahir (pure).” (Reported by Maalik, 1/199; al-Nisaa’i, 8/57; Ibn Hibbaan, 793; al-Bayhaqi, 1/87. Al-Haafiz ibn Hajar said: A group of scholars classed this hadeeth as saheeh because it is so well known. Al-Shaafi’i said: It is proven by them that it was a letter sent by the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr said: “This letter is famous among the scholars of seerah, and is so well known among the scholars that it does not need an isnaad. It is like tawaatur because the people accepted and recognized it. Shaykh al-Albani said that its is saheeh. Al-Talkhees al-Habeer, 4/17. See also: Nasb al-Raayah, 1/196; Irwaa’ al-Ghaleel, 1/158).

mujahid-zee, do you belive you are impure/incapable just because you menstruate? do you believe a merciful God would incapacitate women this way?
Like the writings show, there are many differing opinions on them. Who are they who made these opinions? Human beings, just like you and me. I do not suffer as most women do during their periods therefore I do not see any reason to not touch the Quruan(which like I said earlier has no consequence at all), to pray or to fast.
are we not doing what the jews that Allah condemned are doing? Aren't we disallowing a very basic right, (the right of practicing religion) to women because they menstruate?
I applaud the thinking behind allowing women not to fast or pray, due to reasons of health. It has nothing to do with impureness. If a woman during her periods feels healthy enough, I do not see any reason why she should be disallowed from practicing her faith
