A friend of my dad's who rented our apartment next door, a japanese woman 'Naomi' got married recently. she got married here in the maldives which she says is the best place she has ever visited in her life. and we got the title of the nicest family she had ever met.(giruvaan kolhah jahaafa). She brought her whole family and her husband's family to the maldives to get married in a resort. they held a smaller wedding party here in male' at Salsa royal so that we could attend to it. She was sooo delighted to see us. her whole face suddenly lit up and she ran towards us and gave each of us a huge hug. her whole family came forwards right afterwards and each of them bowed and shook our hands. I felt like a king all throughout that night. plus the food was awesome. varah varah obi. all of them were so polite and friendly.
It made me think, damn maldivians suck like hell. ive been to alot of countries so far including, inia, lanka, malaysia, singapore, thailand, indonesia and australia. but ive never gone to any country that had such impolite and rude ppl than in our country. its a shame. Even when i was in australia i'd meet like strangers all day who would smile when they saw me. some would even come up and shake hands. but here in male', its the opposite. we'd meet childhood friends and former classmates who would pretend they didnt even know u. some wont even smile back even if u do.
naomi's family came over to our place the next day and brought presents for everyone. said that they always do it whenever they go to visit friends. they were sooo thrilled at the exotic food my mom made for them. she was cooking the whole day. the best item of the night was 'garudhiya'. boy i wish i knew how to speak japanese like my dad. then i culd atleast understand them all. all i heard was "kasfhlak kalfjkfal GARUDHIYA al;sfjkasdj alsfjla; ARUF-SAN alkfjala;lkfsj SALEEM-san laksfjalkfgj ARIGATHO GOZAIMAS(means thank u very much) sdklfhsldkf. My mom bought presents for all of them. they were so delighted and went "SUKKEYYYY" meaning "wow" or "amazing". and they kept bowing down repeatedly.
One other thing that amazed them so much was the breadfruit. Mom made breadfruit curry AND breadfrui bondibai. they thought it was awesome that a aweet dish and a hot dish could be made from the same fruit which was so tasty. They loved the food and kept on praising the whole night. We took lots of pictures too. There were like 6 cameras in the living room cos everyone wanted separate pics for themselves. Sigh. im gonna miss Naomi. she'll be leaving in a week.

ya. i totally agree with u. maldivians suck when it comes to manners and etiquittes. racist as ever. think about the indian, srilankan or the bangladeshi kid in class who gets constantly bullied. n think about the caucasian kids in class getting the all royal treatment.
even on the roads we seem to nice and polite to the light skinned where as we treat the continentials as trash. sad to say a pathetic bunch we are

yea, and us maldivians keep n complaining about how racist other country kids treat us. but we seem to be the most racist.

and its funny, ive watchd loads of animes/japanese cartoons. over 2 dozen series. and i understand some of it when im watching them. but when im face to face with a real japanese, i cant understand nething at all. jes some key words.hehe
yeah man, these jappo's are good...nd hell yeah they do always send presents what ever occasion it is for us or for them...like eid for us and christmas for them......
abt the part maldivians being impolite...i think your just unlucky u havent been scolded, i aint defending maldivians or anything, my point being, regarding this issue its kindda same every where ey..these jappos will say maldivians are cool and good cox they r lucky they were with u guys! theyll just say."we wish japanese ppl were as gud as these ppl" and this n this..thats my opinion..there r gud and bad ppl every where..
and as for understanding japanese, have you ever wished to c the english subtitles while they r talkin? may be on there chest? heheh no offence mate.... man i'm bad at being short and sweet
