Meaning of the word "ISLAM" and some info about the word "ALLAH".
A word that we've been using ever since we were lil kids. but does anyone really know what the word means.
Islam is derived from the word ‘salam’, which means peace. Its also derived from the Arabic word ‘silm’ which means to submit ur will to allah, the all mighty god. So in short islam means : "Peace acquired by submitting your will to almighty God."
And regarding the concept of Allah in Islam, the best reply a muslim can give is in
the Quran, surat al Ikhlas, chapter number 112, verse 1-4 which says:
"Say he is Allah one and only. Allah the absolute and eternal. He begets not, nor is he begotten. There is nothing like him". this is a four line definition of almighty Allah.
So why do muslims prefer to say Allah instead of God? its because a person can play mischief with the english word 'god'. For example if u add 's' to god it becomes 'gods'. same goes for adding 'dess', 'father', 'mother' which makes it 'goddess', 'godfather', and 'godmother'. but there is no such word as 'Allahs', nothing like female Allah, Allah father or Allah mother.
Furthermore the word 'Allah' has been mentioned in all the major scriptures of the world including hindu, sikh, jewish and the christian scriptures. Its mentioned in the Gospel of Mark, chapter number 15, verse number 34 as well as the Gospel of Maththew, chapter number 27, verse number 46. When jesus(PBOH) when he was put on the cross he cried out "Ellai Ellai lamaa sabakthani" so as to say "Oh God Oh God! why hast thou forsaken me". and this "Ellai Ellai lamaa sabakthani" is the exact words spoken by Jesus(PBOH) and we know he spoke "aramaike" which is the sister language of arabic. and if you translate those words into arabic it means "Allah Allah". and those words you will find in all the different translations of the bible. The new testament has been translated into more than 2000 different languages but in every translation the original words spoken by Jesus(PBOH) is maintained.
Elah- (Arabic) means god or something worshipped
Allah- Has no gender
Allah- Never plural - always singular
Al-lah- means the only one to worship

only thing i didnt like about this is the images
the writing is good enough don't cheapen it with these cheesy images
its like trying to fool a kid
and i thought muslims believe that it wasnt jesus who was crucified but one of those who came after him. if thats the case then y he be yelling so.
@koanchekey: heheh. images dho. i jes typed in "Allah" in google and that was one that came up. so i uploaded em up immediately. not too picky abt images.
@anonymous: yea, muslims do believe that. what did i say in the post? that the word "Allah" is written in OTHER scriptures as well.
"Its mentioned in the Gospel of Mark, chapter number 15, verse number 34 as well as the Gospel of Maththew, chapter number 27, verse number 46. "
thats where its from. not from the Quran. we believe that the bible has been fabricated but despite it, its obvious by that statement that the ppl of that time spoke of "Allah". that was the point.
Mark 15:34
And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"—which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
Matthew 27:46
About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"—which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
In some manuscripts the words are "eli"
Those words are indeed "Aramaic" a precedent of present day Hebrew (actually a sister language of Hebrew as Aramaic is also classified as Canaanite Language of the Semitic Language family)
Tell me Arufius, what is the specific most used word for GOD in arabic? Is there a generic term? Not the synonyms..
The term ELOI is aramaic and is only related to the term "allah' in the fact that arabic is also a Semitic Language. These languages heavily borrowed from precedents and each other while being developed..
In Aramaic.. ELOI means god.. and similarly ALLAH means god in arabic ( i believe that is the closest to a generic term as there is)..
So that point, my friend, is actually moot..
Hmmmm, I wonder why muslims want to cheapen the word "allah" by having it compared to other words that mean GOD. Why do people feel the NEED to explain? why can't it just be and let it be and what the hell is the obsession with comparing it to the Bible? And Kazia, you did say the word Allah was mentioned, when in acutal fact it wasn't. you just translated them to Allah (that was cheating!). Anyway whatever makes people happy I guess....
does it really cheapen the word? and dear, that paragraph is a reference from Dr.Zakir Naik: president of IRF, renowned as a dynamic international orator on islam and comparative religion. More than 1000 public talks in the u.s.a, Canada, u.k, Saudi Arabia, u.a.e, Kuwait, Bahrain, Australia, new Zealand etc. You should look it up before all the cheating stuff. :)
I am well aware of who Zakir Naik is.
you dindn't refer to Zakir Naik, so I assumed it was your writing. and it is still cheating! (even if it is Zakir Naik who said it)
Becasue in the end it was just a translation not the actual word.
and yes it does cheapen the word. Don't we as muslims say that "allah" the word is unique? and special? so why do you want to compare, since there could be no equal comparision? And when it is obvious , that no comparison word could match the meaning? don't see a point. BUt as I say each to his/her own. This is your blog dude
i did have his name written at the bottom though i didnt specify the paragraph.hehe. this post was supposed to go to the other blog.
anyways i still dont believe it cheapens the word. i believe it strenghtens it. because i believe in our religion and the teachings. and because i believe its the right one. that others cant compare. like uve said "when it is obvious , that no comparison word could match the meaning". but this is maldives we are talking abt.hehe. how many ppl do u think believes that? most ppl dont even know the meaning of the word "islam" or "allah". thats the whole point of the post.
Woah. Quoting Zakir Naik! You must be up to your nose in his idiotic excrement. Because it takes an especially awesome amount of credulity to actually believe in the kind of crap that man can spew out.
When you wrote this did you not realize that we Maldivians have our own reference for god? Maai Ras-kalaange. This word Kalaange can be used in the plural form too. When Naik works his magic via the use of illogical twisting of logical fallacies and words it is easy, and I mean very easy, for the gullible to succumb to that. As in this case, how can you compare two languages to prove god? Why not compare all the languages? Perhaps Mandarin too. There are Christians in the middle east who refer to their god as allah.
And furthermore, when he says allah has been mentioned in major scriptures your eyes must have lit up in awe simply because you will believe anything without facts, isn't it?
To ponder about life is one thing, but to suck up to the showbiz of Naik, now that's being a real fool. (The photos a nice touch in that direction)
hehehe. atleast we've got ppl like you to show us the right way and to tell who is worthy of being listened to and who is not :)
Kaiza, there is a point to tht argument.. Although im sure Dr.Naik is very well versed in the Quran and the Bible, i believe there are boundaries and limits to 'projecting' beliefs into the mindless masses..
There are similarities, ill give you that..
But dude, i humbly implore you to be wary before you progress to Dr. Harun Yahya..
Who plagues our TV and Radio channels, with his pseudoscientific religious crap... Now tht man, is a danger to all society... Next thing you know he will be spurtin out some facts in the Quran that prophesize the Cosmic Deflation and Time Zero Prediction in 2012 (in accordance with Mayan Prediction of Doom).. N starting a cult for his followers who will be 'saved' by his light..
(Wait, now aint that an idea..)
But, kudos for a nice post.. i havent seen a good one for ages.. One worth commenting..
thanx for the heads up. hehe. well, havent gotten to Hrun yahyaa yet though ive seen some of his documentaries on tv n so.
