The Weirdest and most Terrifying experience

Happened last night. was up to eat 'haaru' and my usual midnight chat. then after a phone conv tried to get some sleep before i had to wake up again in about 3hrs time. my room has a sliding door meaning it cant be locked. and the door is about 3feet from the bed. and i always turn off all the lights leaving jes the laptop light which too i keep tured around in the other direction.

You know that feeling you get when you know someone is outside your door? that moment right before someone would open the door. i had closed my eyes for about 5seconds when i had that feeling. and instantly i felt this strange feeling all over my body. its hard to describe as its never happened before in my life. but here goes. it felt like every inch of my body was being pressed down by this force. kind of like the water pressure that presses u inwards when u dive deep down. similar to that but on a much larger scale. i couldnt move at all. it was followed by the sound of the door sliding open. but like i said before i couldnt move a muscle. the first thing that crossed my mind was "im dying!". just like that. it really felt like it. i tried to open my eyes to no avail. i didnt even know if i was breathing. but i was certain that someone or something came in through the door and was probably standing next to me. i was scared shitless. i didnt wanna die.

after abt 2 seconds or so of struggling to move a muscle i was able to open my eyes....just a bit though. it was dark and instantly that force which had me pressed down vanished jes like that. but i couldnt keep my eyes open for long and the second my eyes closed that feeling came back again. i felt helpless and was ready to scream out by now. i wanted to run away, as far away as i could. thats when i heard a voice say "im coming for you" followed by a soft laugh. then i heard the door sliding again, probably closing this time and just like that the feeling of constriction disappeared and i was able to move again. i jumped up out of bed and sat there not knowing what to do or even what to think. i was trying to convince myself that it was only a dream.i wasnt sweating. my heard wasnt racing. infact i didnt feel anything except fear. and its easy to know what a dream is the minute you wake up from it. and that was no dream. lots of different and rather weird explanations raced through my head.

i wasnt gonna tell anyone about it. it didnt make sense even to me. and the obvious explanation anyone would give is "it was just a dream" or "it was all in your head". nevertheless i thought id write about it in a post atleast to remind myself what had happened before i soon forgot about it.

P.S- there are some bits and pieces ive intentionally left out

You might want to read up on Sleep Paralysis.

I blogged about it about 2 years ago here

thanx simon. it was indeed very enlightening :) it fits perfectly.lets see if it happens again. and for those who cant be bothered to check up that link, here:

Sleep paralysis is a common condition characterized by transient partial or total paralysis of skeletal muscles and areflexia that occurs upon awakening from sleep or less often while falling asleep. Stimuli such as touch or sound may terminate the episode, which usually has a duration of seconds to minutes. This condition may occur in normal subjects or be associated with narcolepsy, cataplexy, and hypnagogic hallucinations. The pathophysiology of this condition is closely related to the normal hypotonia that occur during REM sleep[1]. When considered to be a disease, isolated sleep paralysis is classified as MeSH D020188.[2]

Physiologically, it is closely related to the paralysis that occurs as a natural part of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, which is known as REM atonia. Sleep paralysis occurs when the brain awakes from a REM state, but the bodily paralysis persists. This leaves the person fully conscious, but unable to move. In addition, the state may be accompanied by terrifying hallucinations (hypnopompic or hypnagogic) and an acute sense of danger [3]. Sleep paralysis is particularly frightening to the individual due to the vividness of such hallucinations[4]. The hallucinatory element to sleep paralysis makes it even more likely that someone will interpret the experience as a dream, since completely fanciful, or dream-like, objects may appear in the room alongside one's normal vision. Some scientists have proposed this condition as an explanation for alien abductions and ghostly encounters.[5] A study by Susan Blackmore and Marcus Cox of the University of the West of England suggested that alien abductions are related to sleep paralysis rather than to temporal lobe lability.[6]

The paralysis can last from several seconds to several minutes "after which the individual may experience panic symptoms and the realization that the distorted perceptions were false" [7]. When there is an absence of narcolepsy, sleep paralysis is referred to as isolated sleep paralysis (ISP) [8]. "ISP appears to be far more common and recurrent among African Americans than among White Americans or Nigerian Blacks" [9], and is often referred to within African American communities as "the witch riding your back" [10][11].

thanx again simon

that must have been really horrible.. that constricting feeling..lets hope u dont have another bout of it

@shanu: yea, lets hope so. some ppl actually think its not sleep paralysis as none of the other symptoms that are linked to it can be seen apart from that one incident which seems to fit into the definition. ud be surprised at some of the explanations ive heard about it from "signs" to "dheba dheythere" to "supernatural" to "next phase" to "mind tricks" to "sleep paralysis" etc. i guess it all comes down to perception rite?

First, I want to apologize for scaring you like that. I was using stealth camouflage, and I had just come back to take back my pendrive. (I left it there by mistake)

Yes, I know you're in Australia - but Herbie the Astral Goat has no limits on mileage.

When I saw you like that, I couldn't help but laugh and pull a "deathman" on you. Now here I am, feeling like shit about it. I hope you'll forgive me.

@a previous anon:watched entity. nice movie. but bo, nothin like that at all.heheh. for those who havent watched it, its a story about some really weird stuff that happens to a woman who had gone through alot in her young age. you might say that theres this conflict among two groups of people. between a group of doctors who explains giving reasons that its all in her head and another group which says its linked with parapsychology. its a good movie considering its in the 1980's.
